Changes in hotel ownership or management are common occurrences. Under SMC 14.25, you cannot be laid off simply because there is a change in who runs your hotel.

The law requires employers to notify workers of a pending change in ownership or management.

In addition, the new employer must:

  • Give first preference in hiring to existing workers for the first 6 months of operation.
  • Give existing workers a 90-day transition period during which time you can only be fired for just cause.
  • Provide you with a written performance evaluation at the end of the 90-day transition period.
